In a significant move to strengthen community ties and boost regional development, the Chief of Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, today inaugurated ‘Ibex Tarana’ a community radio station operating at 88.4 MHz at Jyotirmath in Uttarakhand’s Garhwal region.
According to the X post, the station, dedicated to the people of Garhwal, marks a first-of-its-kind initiative by the Indian Army under the ethos of "Indian Army for India’s First Villages." Designed to serve as a vital platform for the remote border communities, ‘Ibex Tarana’ aims to amplify local voices, celebrate Garhwal’s cultural richness, and promote participatory development.
Speaking at the inauguration, General Dwivedi emphasised the strategic and emotional importance of empowering communities living in border areas. “The voice of the mountains deserves to be heard across the nation. 'Ibex Tarana' will not only serve as a bridge of communication but also a symbol of resilience and pride for the people of the region,” he said.
The radio station is envisioned as a medium for disseminating timely information to locals and tourists alike, including weather updates, health advisories, educational content, disaster alerts, and culturally relevant programming. It will also foster greater awareness of issues related to livelihood, environment, and government schemes, thereby acting as a catalyst for inclusive growth.
The initiative stands as a testament to the Indian Army’s continued efforts to go beyond the call of duty by contributing to the social and cultural fabric of India’s remote and strategically significant areas.
